This is (apparently) a liberal news service, and they can't call a spade a spade (or a gang a gang), and I feel it is only right to correct them.
OK, let me tell you the solution to this. On some early morning, about 4 dozen SWAT officers ought to swarm into the neighborhood, search every house within around 5 minutes, arrest everyone with an illegal or an illegally held gun, and keep somewhere from 4 to 8 cops in the neighborhood for the next month. Each person with an illegal weapon (illegal to own, not to mention unregistered) should be thrown in jail for a year or more, while the weapon is checked for involvement in a shooting. Each person with an unregistered weapon (excluding weapons pending registration, because some places have taken a few years to register weapons) should get 6 months or more, while those guns are checked for involvement in a shooting. Everyone with a legal and registered weapon lets the cops borrow it for a week so it can be checked for involvement in a shooting. For any owner of a gun involved in a shooting, life in prison. Not a mental institution-type prison, or the type with TV's and hot meals for inmates, but a real prison. The type where they actually lock you in, and you don't want to go back.
And, anyone who tries to fire a gun while the cops are in the neighborhood becomes dead in the time it takes a cop to turn around and draw a weapon.
However, this will never happen. Instead, a few more innocent people will be killed in the crossfire of rival murderers who can't even shoot straight, which is the reason the killers hit innocents rather than their target.
And to think that some groups complain about "mercenary" troops, who are professional soldiers (working for a security company, not the military), in Iraq. That neighborhood could use a few "mercenary troops" to ensure a bit of civility.
But, I bet the neighborhood can get pizzas in 30 minutes, tops!
